Cook a Meal for the Family

In Week 7 the challenge will be to show that you are helping out at home.

Many children have shown an interest in cooking a meal, thanks to Taine who set the challenge off last week. Cooking involves many learning areas - reading recipes, understanding oven temperatures, measuring ingredients, timing and showing our school CARE values to your family.

So far Taine, Jade, Aria and Grace have sent photos in to show themselves at work in the kitchen. Congratulations - your lucky families!

Week 5 (Can Do) Plan a statistical investigation about something at home.

These are some examples, feel free to come up with your own idea

Plan a mini investigation
Pose your question
Make a prediction
Collect your data
Make comments about what you found out
Present your data using a graph

Some ideas
  1. How much time do I spend watching television in a week?
  2. How much physical activity do I have outside of school hours?
  3. Do M&M/jellybean packets have an equal amount of the different coloured lollies?
  4. How many star jumps can my family do in 30 seconds? Does this improve over 5 days?
  5. Are my dinners the same every night? Over the week which dinner item is cooked most/least often?

Week 1 Home/School learning tasks

Your home/school learning tasks are shared in this area to begin the year.
These activities are CAN DOS not MUST DOS

Tin Can Desk Organiser

See if you can rescue a medium-sized tin can from your home recycling to make a pencil holder to keep your every day belongings in so that it can be moved from one space to another. Your pencil case can stay in your tote tray to hold less used things such as highlighters, vivids and colouring pencils

Have a look at some of these images or search google images yourselves:

Classroom Cushions

Here's your chance to make R12 look like a cosy, comfortable learning space.

  1. Are there any cushions that aren't being used at home that would brighten up our classroom?
  2. Do you have a clever family member who would like to help you make you your very own special cushion?
  3. Do you have any spare pillows that you can cover with a bright pillowcase that isn't being used?
